Preserving Disney’s Laugh-O-Gram Studio

  • Boone Electric Cooperative 1413 Rangeline Street Columbia, MO, 65201 United States (map)

Please join us at the Boone Electric Cooperative as Dan Viets shares the preservation of Disney’s Laugh-O-Gram Studio in Kansas City. Viets will explain how he and others have used historic preservation resources to protect and preserve the building which housed Walt Disney's first commercial animation studio. Founded in 1923 on the second floor of the McConahay Building, a National Register designated tapestry brick building by Kansas City architect Nelle E. Peters, the Studio is known to be the birthplace of Mickey Mouse.

Dan Viets is an attorney in private practice in Columbia, MO, concentrating on defense law. He has served for many years as the Missouri State Coordinator for NORML and the chair of the board of the Mid-Missouri Civil Liberties Association. He is a former president of the Missouri Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, former president of the University of Missouri student body and former chair of the City of Columbia Human Rights Commission. He is also the owner of one of Columbia’s oldest homes.
